Tradition in a new era

When I visited Kunming, I found the Confucius Temple and by a happy coincidence it was the day of a chess tournament. I enjoyed observing people playing Go, chess and majiang – I tried to glean the rules, but it was too difficult. I loved the traditional surroundings, the people sipping tea and playing the games that have been played in China for millennia. Tradition is another staple of China and its culture and I think it’s beautiful; hopefully, the younger generations won’t forget about the past while they conquer the future.

  1. It looks like a pretty close game – but then, I don’t really know the rules very well!
