0728 Man

This work is an A0 Digital print on Fabriano paper. It is drawn using electronic sketchpad. It is a mixture of cultures. Some of the motifs on Man’s face are drawn from the ornamentation on monastic metal work created in Ireland at the turn of the first millenium. It also draws a great deal of influence from Chinese Opera masks and face-painting. I spent a long period of time in China but am now based in Ireland. I studied Chinese printmaking and calligraphy. Calligraphy reminds me of the flow of Celtic illumination. I always wanted to marry the cultures of east and west. This work is an attempt to bring our cultures together.
