However different people of different cultures can be, when we know them better they are all humans with similar aspirations, similar feelings. On several trips through China, the painter initially experienced misunderstandings but gradually discovered the warmth of the Chinese people. This theme is expressed by a diptique, one panel showing the Western way of enjoying life with coffee, the other one the Chinese way with tea.
Lieve Dejonghe, born in 1961, is a Belgian artist who traveled to China for the first time in 1987 and fell in love with the country. In 2007-2008 she lived in Shenyang where she painted the works that are shown here. Some of her works were exhibited in the Belgian pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
