We are close yet so far…

China, a word I can’t forgot, a world I’m still exploring. Almond eyes, black hair and shy nature, my features reminds me everyday to where I come from.

How a single trip, 23 days, 552 hours, 33120 minutes of time had made me fall in love with a country ? Living and growing up far away from China, I never saw it as a concrete character of my life. « China » was a giant shade of mystery. It became an attraction. Since then this feeling has never leaved me. Landing on this huge land of history has changed everything. China slowly showed itself to me. It hasn’t ended, it’s still not, and hopefully, it won’t. I saw how amazing it is, I learned what Chinese people – my people – went through these past hundred years, I shared friendship, laughter and tears with them. At last, I felt I was back home. China’ spirit has never leaved me even back in France. It showed me the greatest of these two cultures, the luck I have to know both of them and the pride to be part of their histories.

Face to what the last Chinese generations have lived, nobody can stay indifferent. China, this amazing country is changing everyday, too much, too fast, too deeply. However, behind, there are people, humans, whose lives are limited in time, and who show their courage, their spirit facing reality. Two perspectives are coexisting, one holding the other. This has created the inequality between those who can make it, and those who can’t. Chinese people went through a lot throughout History, and today shows that the end is still far away.

China is not only a country ; above all, it is a spirit, a way of life spreading all around the world. Sharing pieces of Chinese culture in Paris’ Chinatown, making friends with Chinese students at university, watching Chinese movies, reading Chinese literature and eventually, being in touch with this faraway country always makes me feel privileged. Those tiny connections are an umbilical cord between a mother(land) and her child : I can’t live without them, and they are pointless when I set foot on her land.

Through time and space, China has the scent of eternity. For Chinese overseas, it remains as the « Chinese dream » (中国梦), the will to trace our origins, and to find a balance in what we are. For everyone, it is the discovery of a wonderful and moving world you could ever forget.
